Hollymount School

Hollymount School has worked with NETbuilder for the past 5 years, initially engaging with their IT support division to take over support of the school’s network. The relationship has developed over the years, with Hollymount introducing NETbuilder to ScholarPack, a Cloud based MIS solution that serves as a replacement for solutions such as SIMs. Likewise, the advice NETbuilder has provided the school has always been held in the highest regard and trusted by the school’s Senior Leadership Team.

The Brief

Whilst the responsive support provided by NETbuilder was very good, staff at Hollymount were finding that they were using up valuable support hours on 1st Line issues. These issues could have been resolved quickly and effectively if the school had had a dedicated member of staff tasked with handling them on a day-to-day basis. If the school were to request more time from NETbuilder's technicians, the support contract would have become too expensive.
Staff at Hollymount were also finding it a challenge to make full use of their IT equipment. With a lack of confidence in the equipment and the risk of lesson disruption due to lenghty repair times, staff where reluctant to use IT equipment for curriculum delivery. This resulted in the school not getting the return on investment it should have been.
Therefore, Hollymount began searching for a way to meet the need for both additional IT support and help with delivering the IT curriculum.

Our Approach

At the end of 2018, Hollymount’s Headteacher Emma Pritchard, contacted us regarding their new “Teacher’s Technology Apprentice”, James. Emma wanted to talk to us about how the relationship with NETbuilder would continue, as well as the support we could offer.

Their Primary Goal Apprentice offered them:

- 35 hours of onsite support per week

- Working onsite with teachers to plan the use of devices across the curriculum, then co-deliver in lessons

- Increasing teacher and learner digital confidence

- Delivery of extra-curricular clubs - Level 3 Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship Standard

- Specialist Vendor and training certificates

- Curriculum knowledge base (lesson plans, resources etc)

The Result

After only having a Primary Goal Apprentice since November 2018 Emma comments that James is “Excellent, it is making day-to-day at school so much easier. James can fix 1st Line problems there and then with the support of NETbuilder Education.” James has given the teachers far more confidence so if the equipment does fail, he can fix it straight away with almost no lesson interruption. Emma also comments that James has “enabled the school to consider implementing new equipment. I have the confidence that James will take ownership, learn how to use it and show the teachers the best way to implement it into the lesson.”
